32 I I review _ ceramics manual CAD/CAM 1_2010 _Up until a few years ago, the most commonly used materials for tooth restorations were metal- based. For some time now, however, dentists and patients alike have been requesting all-ceramics restorations as an alternative, because they are metal free, corrosion resistant, aesthetic, chemically inert and thus highly biocompatible. In terms of durability andinsomeclinicalsituations,all-ceramiccrownscan perform as well as the ‘gold standard’ metal-based restorations provided they are used for the right indi- cations.All-ceramicrestorations,duetotheuseofthe current dental bonding technologies, offer dentists theoptiontoconservetoothstructurewhileproviding highlyaesthetictherapysolutions. It’snowonderthat thetrendtowardsall-ceramicrestorationsisgrowing rapidly, and that all-ceramics can often substitute for metalinmanyclinicalscenarios. To ensure that the use of all-ceramic restorations in both teaching and practice issupportedbyasolidclinicalandtechnicalfoundation, two experienced and well respected experts and edu- cators on dental ceramics in collaboration with Ger- man co-authors and the Society for Dental Ceramics and produced a ceramics manual for the professional community as well as the international dental market. LedbyDrArielJ.Raigrodski,UniversityofWashington, Seattle,andDrHowardE.Strassler,UniversityofMary- land, Baltimore, All-Ceramics at a Glance has now been published. The manual is a practice-oriented guide to ceramic materials and CAD/CAM systems. The clinical application of all-ceramics in restorative and prosthetic dentistry is described concisely and illustrated richly. The German edition of this manual hasalreadyestablisheditselfasabestseller. This vade mecum of all-ceramic restoration con- solidates international specialist knowledge, and —thanks to the authors’ years of experience—gives the clinical methodology a common denominator. This book is geared not only towards opinion leaders, university and college instructors, and scientists with obligations to teaching, research, continuing edu- cation, journalism, but also towards dental clinicians and practitioners who will find a platform to define thequalitystandardsofdentistrywithall-ceramics._ All-Ceramics at a Glance Authors_ Dr Ariel J.
