I 41 xxx _ xxx I implants2_2010 _The International Team for Implantology (ITI), aleadingacademicorganizationdedicatedtothepro- motion of evidence-based education and research in the field of implant dentistry, welcomed more than 4,000 participants from all over the world to the 2010 edition of its much anticipated ITI World Symposium. The city of Geneva, Switzerland, provided a pictur- esque backdrop to a full program of topical presenta- tions and debate. Withhiskeynoteaddress,world-renownedadven- turerandscientistBertrandPiccardsetthetoneforthe three-dayeventthatexplorednewandemergingter- ritory in implant dentistry. The collective knowledge represented by the faculty of 113 experts from 26 countriesprovidedaspringboardforlivelydebateand discussion that continued beyond the official pro- gram. The scientific program was divided into three mainfacetsoftreatment:Newclinicalmethodsfordi- agnosis and treatment planning; New and proven treatmentprocedures;Complicationsinimplantden- tistry or dealing with reality. The smooth delivery and breadth of information provided over the three days served to underline the truth of the ITI's claim of "30 years of leadership and credibility". For the first time, the main program was comple- mented by a pre-symposium program of two parallel full-day courses that allowed participants the luxury of total immersion in two narrowly defined areas of treatment. The highly popular Limited Attendance Sessionswerealsoexpandedfromthreetofourcom- pact lectures per session. "The ITI is fortunate that it cancallonsuchawidevarietyofopinionleadersinim- plantdentistryonaninternationalbasistosharetheir knowledge," said Stephen Chen, Chairman of the Sci- entific Program Committee. "This pool of expertise is the foundation for the success of the event and rein- forcesitswelldeservedreputationasthemostpresti- gious academic event in the implant dentistry calen- dar." “Every effort was made to ensure the smooth run- ningoftheeventandgiveparticipantsthebestpossi- ble Symposium experience,” commented Friedrich Buck, Executive Director of the ITI. “We also took the decision to hold an industry exhibition that drew 38 exhibitors from Europe as well as the USA, giving participantstheopportunitytoreviewsomeofthelat- est developments in the field and discuss their needs directly with manufacturers.” Rounding off the event was the Research award which attracted a great deal of interest.
