März 22 March Fimet Oy will be showcasing its newdentalunitatIDS2011.According to the company, the NEO units are er- gonomic, high-quality systems that can be customized with oral scanners andmonitors,forexam- ple, to meet the dif- ferent needs of practi- cioners. They are sup- posed to complement the broad selec- tion of the company’s F1 dental units currently available on the market. Themotion range of the NEO dental unit is very wide, making it com- fortable and ergonomic to use, the company says. There are multiple adjustmentoptionstoensurecomfort. The chair height can be set from 45 to 95 cm to ensure a comfortable work- ing position while sitting or standing. The chair can be turned 45° in both directions. The suction head is ad- justable from the “3 o’clock” to the “9 o’clock” position. Additionally, the cuspidor can be turned sideways 90°, providing more work space for the assistant. The unit also supports left- handed work. Flowing, harmonious lines and seamless upholstery are supposed to simplify cleaning and ensure good dental hygiene. Both the instrument bridge and the suction head can be covered with sterilizable sili- cone covers. The detach- ablecuspidorbowl and suction filters can be easily cleaned. The unit can be controlled with a wireless multi-control foot switch, joy- sticks and buttons on the instrument bridge and suction head. Fimet Oy’s CEO Timo Janhunen de- scribes the challenging development process of the NEO: “The NEO’s de- velopment builds on Fimet’s current F1 product family. Over the years, we have gathered several suggestions for smallimprovementsfromusers, and we have included this valu- able feedback in this new prod- uct.Wealsowantedtoupgradethe visuals of the device, and we’re sure thatmanywillfindthenewdesign’s modern look pleasing. It is available for all existing PrepStarts and can easily be retrofitted to a classic PrepStart system in about 30 minutes, according to the com- pany. With PrepStart H2O,theairpressure, abrasive and water flow can be easily ad- justed for ideal clini- caluse.Awaterselec- tor switch allows use with or without the water spray. Either 27 μ or 50 μ alu- minum oxide can be used. Water is easily added to the remov- able tank. Placing the filled tank in a microwave for up to 60 seconds will bring the water to 46°C, a tem- perature which has been reported to enhance patient comfort. According to the company, cut- ting performance is not reduced by the water. A foot pedal provides in- stantaneous on/off control. Tip sizes are available in .48mm and .38mm (.019˝ & .015˝). Nozzles areeasilyinterchangeableand both handpiece and nozzle are steam autoclavable. As the PrepStart is powered by a sim- ple air connection, the device contains no electronics nor requires any electrical con- nections. The unit operates at 4 to 8 bars (60 to 120 psi). PrepStart H2O comes com- plete with one handpiece, .48mm nozzle, air lines and 27 μ aluminum oxide. Instructions provide details on use and clinical suggestions. Air abrasion, which does not mi- crofracture enamel, is one of the most conservative treatments. The method allows prepping into dentin with little discomfort, so that anes- thesia is rarely needed. It is also silent and eliminates the whine and vibration of the drill. According to the company, dentists can treat mul- tiple quadrants in one appointment and with one diagnosis as there is noneedtowaitforanesthesiatotake effect.
