business58 IDS 2011 – 22. März 22 March The new intraoral scanner from MyRay aims to revolutionise, simplify and accelerate the way dentists work by applying 3-dimensional optical scan- ningtodentalimpressions.Accordingto the company, it is a unique dental tool that offers ease of use and significant savings for the user. It is also supposed to eliminate the discomfort of conven- tional impression-taking and improve the patient experience, they added. In the iD3, patented technology of confocalmicroscopy(opticalmethod)is combined with the acknowl- edgement of the Moiré effect (mathematical methods).Thedeviceisable to produce accurate 3-D images of the dental arches which can then be stored and shared with dental labs as elec- tronic data thus eliminating most of the logistics and costs associated with traditional techniques that involve ma- terials, casts and copies. Optical acquisition systems have proved to be more accurate and repro- ducible than any other mechanical method based on traditionally used casting materials. The iD3 is able to scan the upper andlowerarchesseparatelyanddetect the exact geometric relationship be- tween them, the company said. The dif- ferent sections are then automatically combined at the end of the process. A complete scan of the arch can also be carried out in several stages. According to MyRay, the iD3 keeps the sapphire glass of the tip at a temperature slightly higher than that of the oral cavity during intraoral scanningwhichissupposedtoprevent condensation caused by the natural humidity levels present. There is no need to immobilise the handpiece in pre-set positions or ob- serve a fixed distance between the in- strument and the surface of the teeth. The handpiece is equipped with an advanced scanning system comprised of a sophisticated mobile-lens optical unit, alaserprojector, adigitalsensorto gather the data and a powerful proces- sor for real-time processing of the scan during acquisition. The high capture rate of up to 14 scans per second will al- low the user to gather a huge amount of informationandconstructaprecisesur- face map also known as a “point cloud”. According to MyRay, the iD3 scan- ner is a revolutionary product that was developed to expand the company’s range of systems specifically designed for a new dental imaging experience. At IDS 2011, the company has announced to showcase more of their recent inno- vations including the wireless digital Xpod, a portable device with lithium polymer batteries that captures high resolutionX-rayimagesforexamination on a wide integrated touch-screen, as wellastheX7Hyperionpanoramicunit that can accommodate a teleradiogra- phy arm to perform ultra-fast scans of variable fields of view.
